Ok, in two days it’ll be 2014.
You don’t have one outfit that you’ll wear every day, month after month, for the entire year. Do you?
It’s a safe bet that the answer to that question is going to be a resounding “NO” for 100% of the people reading this.
How can we be so sure?
Think about it. The way we look and how we appear to others is the basis of a lot of first impressions. First impressions, soon after, lead to lasting conclusions, which form the foundation for many of the relationships in our lives.
We want people to like us and to be accepted (it’s human nature) and if you show up in the same clothes for 365 days in a row you might hurt your chances of that happening.
THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE WHEN IT COMES TO SOCIAL MEDIA.
Businesses that have one Facebook banner for the entire year are sure to be seen in the same light as someone who shows up to work dressed in the same attire for 365 days in a row … not good.
At both of our companies, we update our Facebook Banners once per month.
It allows us to showcase new ideas/products/services and keep things fresh and clean.
We know the proof is in the pudding, so here is our Facebook Banner for RODAmarketing.com for January 2014.
But wait!
Of course there’s more to social media than just Facebook. So, the fun continues. Not only do we update our Facebook Banners once per month, we also do the same for all the other social media platforms we’re active on.
Here’s a slightly different version of our January Social Media Banners – this time for our Twitter account:
The fun doesn’t stop with Twitter! There’s also LinkedIn for us to consider!
So, we updated that one too!
And last but certainly not least (we LOVE you Google!) there is also Google +.
As you can see, we have these four social accounts that we create custom banners for each month.
Each banner has a purpose/message and fits into our bigger picture and strategies.
Throwing random banners up month after month just to fake the impression of being on top of your game will get you nowhere. People can smell a fake from miles away.
If you’re going to do social media, do it right.
To do that, you need to let others quickly “know” that you’re the best around to do business with.
An impressive and solid first impression is the first step to make that happen time and time again for you and your business.
Even if you can’t update your social media banners every month (maybe you don’t have the time or resources) at least be sure to show something new once every few months.
